Abstract: The main purpose of this study is to assess the characteristics of intermediate housing and the factors influencing the perception of residents in an approach aimed at improving the quality of the built environment. The study is based on the compatibility between social practices and the spatial configuration of the habitat. The main criterion used to control this consensual mechanism was the degree of satisfaction of the users of the inhabited space, as the first concern in the process of housing design. Survey results have shown that the characteristics of the intermediate habitat have a direct influence on the spatial configuration of the habitat. The quality of the spaces it provides fully contributes to reducing the transformation of the inhabited space. The study encourages architects and urban planners to formally design local intermediate housing with a view to the housing of tomorrow.
