Abstract: The ksar is a method of implementing an architectural product that is well integrated into its physical environment. The reflection of its space stems from a synergy of climatic as well as socio-cultural factors. The search for a quality habitat embodying the cultural and ancestral values inherited from our heritage adaptable to the requirements of the current and future areas remains on the agenda. From there, our research challenges the following questioning: To improve the quality of the built environment, to what extent have the principles of the traditional architecture of the Saharan ksour been injected into the design of recent intermediate housing in Touggourt? In this perspective, the objective of this study is to highlight the permanent elements of the traditional architecture of the Saharan ksour that could eternally meet the needs of the citizen actor living. It is a question of understanding the living conditions which this dilemma offers to the inhabitants while putting the factors influencing the perception of the inhabitants as the first concerned in the process of housing. Through a shared diagnosis, the analysis consists of revealing the application of the principles of ksar creating an identity specific to the Saharan intermediate habitat. In a prospective vision and in search of the quality of built housing, the study encourages a return to the past through a permanent cultural model of living.
