FREQUENCY OF ORTHOREXIA NERVOSA IN DIETICIANS AND DETERMINATION OF EATING ATTITUDES

Abstract: Orthorexia nervosa is an eating disorder defined as an obsession with healthy eating and is an obsession of healthy eating that affects a person's life. This study has been conducted in an electronic environment to determine healthy eating habits and eating attitudes of 100 dieticians of which 89% female and 11% male whose ages ranged between 24 and 34 and working in different cities and health institutions. A relavant questionnaire was used to determine the general characteristics of individuals and Orthorexia Nervosa Rating Scale (ORTO-15) was used to determine healthy eating habits. While 38% of the dieticians participating in the study were physically active, 62% were not physically active. It was found that 95% of dieticians were married and 5% were single. It was found that 75% of dieticians had breakfast every morning, 18% had occasionally, 4% only had on weekends and 3% never had breakfast. The proportion of patients with orthorectic features was determined as 60%. Of those with orthorectic features, 53 (53%) were female and 7 (7%) were male. There was no significant relationship between orthorexia nervosa and age (p> 0.05). There was no significant relationship between orthorexia nervosa and gender and marital status (p> 0.05). A significant relationship was found between orthorexia nervosa and working status (p <0.05). It was found that 38% of the dieticians with orthorectic characteristics worked in private sector as a wage worker, 9% worked as a civil servant wage worker, 10% were employees, 43% were not employed / retired. It was found that physical activity, cigarette smoking, vitamin-mineral use, water consumption, snacks and main meal consumption and Orthorexia Nervosa were independent from each other (p <0.05). The number of people with orthorexia nervosa eating disorder is increasing and this disorder is expected to increase rapidly in the next 5-10 years. In order to prevent this situation, it is necessary to see Ortorexia Nervoza as a public health problem and to take necessary measures for this problem.
