Abstract: The main objective of this study is to determine the relationship between meaningful work (psychological meaningfulness), work engagement, and affective organizational commitment. The researchers also would like to know if work engagement would explain the relationship between meaningfulness and affective organizational commitment. An online survey was administered to 167 Filipino workers ages 20-29. The researchers conducted a Pearson’s correlation and a series of linear regression. The results reveal that all meaningful work is positively and moderately correlated with both work engagement and organizational commitment. Additionally, it was found out that work engagement and organizational commitment are moderately and positively correlated. Further analysis also shows that meaningfulness is a significant and positive predictor of work engagement and positive affective organizational commitment, it was also noted that work engagement partially mediated the relationship between meaningfulness and affective organizational commitment. Such findings imply that employees who are recognized for their significant efforts are more likely to experience positive, fulfilling, affective-motivational state of work-related well-being. Such work engagement would lead the person to develop a strong sense of belongingness and connection to his/her organization.
