Abstract: This paper presents an analysis of the importance of local wisdom as the basic capital of sustainable development in the ASEAN region. The rationale of putting local wisdom as the basic capital is the implementation of human life in a long period through the mindset and behavior in interacting with the environment. The purpose of this study is to identify and explain efforts to strengthen local wisdom in the development of stronger and progressive bilateral and multilateral relations among ASEAN countries. The method used in this study is the legal research method and using conceptual and statute approaches. The results of the study indicate the existence of local wisdom values as a binder and encourage the establishment of a harmonious relationship and partnership between Indonesia and other ASEAN countries, namely through bilateral or multilateral cooperation mechanisms between two or more countries. This will enable the development of a more dynamic future relationship among ASEAN countries based on identity, exclusivity and socio-economic. Thus, revitalizing local wisdom will be able to enhance mutually beneficial relations among ASEAN countries in various fields.
