Abstract: The government considers agriculture and rural development to be a strategic priority sector. The main objectives of this research are to study the steady growth of the sector and the alignment with European standards to access funding from the European Union Funds for Rural Development. Rural development generally refers to the process of improving the quality of life and the economic well-being of people living in relatively isolated and lightly populated areas. This research studies the impact of the support schemes in agricultural and rural development in Kosovo. The sample was taken randomly. Through this study, we have tried to indicate whether the grant application and subsidies have contributed to improving the yield of farmers benefiting from these support schemes. Based on our findings we have the following results: direct subsidies have had a positive impact on the yield of benefiting farmers. Furthermore, the results of this study further justify the commitment and financial assistance of the Government of Kosovo and many European Community donors to further enhance farm performance and in general the development of the agricultural sector in Kosovo.
