Abstract: The world is now defined by a unique global legitimacy crisis, according to NYU professor (MA IR Program) Dr Maha Hosain Aziz in her award-winning book, FUTURE WORLD ORDER (2019). In her keynote speech at the conference, she will draw on the ideas from her book, explaining how norms in geopolitics, politics, economics and society are being challenged, yet there is no consensus. If it is not a US-led world anymore, who's in charge of the international system? If democracy is weakening, is there a better system to replace it? If globalization is failing, is populism the answer? If liberal values are in decline, will xenophobia dominate? This is a sensitive global turning point. Tech has exacerbated our global legitimacy crisis – but could it ultimately be part of the cure?
