Abstract: Periphery areas of any city are zones of intense human activities and confusion. It is a transition zone appended to the core built-up area. It has, therefore, attracted diverse interests and perspectives from scholars. Peripheral areas are experiencing profound environmental, social and economic changes and pressures of urban expansion into hitherto agricultural and rural settlements. The study is based on a sample survey from twenty-two informal housing settlements. Data on variables that influence informal housing (x-variables) and factor analysis were used to identify the factors of the growth of informal housing. The finding indicates that informal housing growth in Lafia fringes is in all directions.
