Abstract: The purpose of this research is to explore the possible relationship between school facility conditions and learner performance in Adamawa and Gombe States of Nigeria. The school facilities and other factors influencing learner performance for the participating schools are determined by the Annual School Census (ASC) conducted by the States Ministry of Education (SMoEs) supported by UNICEF in each of the two states. Schools in the census data are organized by preprimary, primary, junior secondary and senior secondary schools. However, the research is limited to lower primary (P2) and upper primary (P4). The data for pupil performance were obtained from a recent Learner Performance Assessment (LPA) we conducted on 57,473 learners in 667 primary schools under USAID Strengthening Education in North-East Nigeria States Project managed by the American University of Nigeria. The regression model is used to analyze the performance in relation to the independent variables in sections and subsections of the ASC. It has been observed that all the factors studied have an influence on the performance of primary school learners in most of the local government areas. Surprisingly, pupils in rural areas where most of the schools are dilapidated tend to perform better than those in the urban areas. Thus, the results obtained will enable us to intervene as a Project in strengthening the capacities of learners, teachers and education managers.
