Abstract: Abstract The study investigated gender norms double standard and notions about masculinity as factors which determine the type of nonconsensual sex by the different cultures in Nigeria. The research design that was used was the descriptive research design of the survey type. The study population consist of all men in Nigeria. There are about 250 ethnic groups in Nigeria, few of which were selected. Those ethnic groups selected include the three major ethnic groups, such as Hausa, Yoruba, Ibo and some others. These men are those whose age range are between 20 – 60 years. The sample population consists of 500 men who were drawn from the North, South, East and the South Western part of Nigeria. The sampling techniques used was the stratified and simple random sampling techniques; Age, status as married or single, educational background and religion were used as strata’s. The consideration of the cultural setting from which the men came from was also a factor in the stratification. A self-constructed questionnaire titled gender norms questionnaire was used to gather the data used for the analysis. The appropriate descriptive analysis such as frequency counts, percentages and inferential statistics such as Analysis of variance Pearson product movement correlation multiple regression were use in the analysis. The finding of the research shows the type of relationship which exist between the gender norms, nations of masculinity and non-consensual sex in the Nigerian culture. It also described the perception of Nigerian male concerning their view about gender norms. Based on the findings appropriate recommendations were made.
