A MULTISENSORY APPROACH IN TEACHING PHONICS TO ALL KIND OF LEARNERS

Abstract: The present research involves enhancing phonological awareness among all kind of learners by teaching phonics in a multisensory method. The data have been collected from 135 students who were enrolled for phonics sessions at Brainstorm International in Pune, India. The age group of the sample is 6-8 years. Burt Reading test and Schonell spelling test were administered on the students. The study is single group pre-test and post-test design. The scored followed normal distributed curve for reading and spelling. The result showed improvement in reading and spelling after the multisensory intervention given to the children. The intervention consisted of structured multisensory phonics techniques and constant drilling to improve their reading and spelling.
