Abstract: The purpose of the study is to determine the occurrence of antimicrobial residues in pork from local fresh markets in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya district, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya province. One hundred and eighty pork samples were collected during 30 days period (January, 2019) from two local fresh markets. The occurrences of antimicrobial residues were investigated by the RR-test technique. The prevalence of antimicrobial residues in pork samples was 4.16% (5/120). Seven samples were detected to belong to penicillin and five to the tetracycline group of antimicrobials. Those antimicrobial classes most commonly used on pig farms are the same as the residues most frequently detected in pork. Therefore, education of the farmers, continuous surveillance and understanding of the socio-economic incentives that would be traded off at farm level would help to reduce or eliminate the risk posed by the residues in marketed pork in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya district, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya province.
