THE EFFECT OF TEACHING A COMPUTER UNIT USING MOOC IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF CRITICAL THINKING AMONG THE 10TH GRADE STUDENTS IN JORDAN

Abstract: The aim of the study lies in investigating the effect of teaching a computer unit by using MOOC’s in developing critical thinking scale among the grade students in Jordan. To achieve this study, experimental approach and two classes of the 10th grade students was used at the Model School of the University of Jordan in the second semester of the academic year 2016/2017. The sample was divided into two groups as follows: the experimental group consisting of (25) students and the control group consisting of (25) students, alongside the quasi-experimental approach were used. The findings indicated that there are statistically significant differences at (α = 0.05) in the skills of critical thinking for the 10th grade students in favor of the teaching method using MOOC’s. Besides, the findings indicated that there are statistically significant differences at (α = 0.05) in the skills of critical thinking for the 10th grade students in favor of the MOOC’s. They also found that there are statistically significant differences at (α = 0.05) among the 10th grade students’ attitudes level towards the computer course due to the effect of teaching method for the experimental group. The study recommended that teachers must be strongly encouraged to design teaching units by using MOOC’s to improve learning and motivate students. Likewise, it recommended that teachers must be trained to use MOOC in teaching due to its positive effect in improving the instruction process among students.
